March 24, 1974

Details:

Painter's Mill Music Fair
Owings Mill (Baltimore), MD
Promoter: Key Productions
Other act(s): Redbone, KISS (opener)
Reported audience: (2,400 capacity)

Set list(s):

Unknown.

Notes:

- Joe Perry recounted watching KISS at this show in the "Behind the Mask" book (2003).
- KISS became the opening act for this show when Badfinger purportedly pulled out and Aerosmith was promoted to the headliner slot. However, it should be noted that Badfinger had already performed at Painter's Mill on March 1 (a bootleg of that performance circulates) and had also just completed a run of dates at Alex Cooley's Electric Ballroom in Atlanta, GA on the evening of March 23. They instead performed in Little Rock, AR on March 24, allowing them an additional day for the 1000+ miles travel/rest prior their next scheduled show: The Bayou in Georgetown, DC on March 26.
- Steven: "It was kinda hard to see them through all the makeup, y'know? It was a comic-book thing. Then we toured with them. We must have played two or three shows before one of their road crew pulled a knife on ours. Then we said, 'sayonara.' But back then, it was all about who could blow who offstage" (Las Vegas Sun, 10/24/03).
